Anza-Borrego Desert, California - April 9, 2024

 One highway in Anza-Borrego that I had not driven before proved to have some very interesting geology.  The road crossed over quite a few deep gullies, or canyons, that were extremely rugged.  At the bottom of each were tire tracks, indicating these were part of the off-road playground.  I would have enjoyed exploring them, but only if I had my old Jeep.










I also ran across more wildflower areas that made me wish I had been there a couple weeks earlier.

Arizona Photography is intended to share photos taken locally at times when I'm unable to travel.  Most of my activity at home centers around birding, with visits to local sanctuaries or nearby towns that offer good birding opportunities.  Accordingly, most of the photos that I post on this web site will be birds or other wildlife.  Arizona has many small mountain ranges, called "sky islands", and the canyons within those ranges are home to many species of birds that are seen nowhere else with the U.S.  Many are indigenous to Mexico and Central America, but just happen to spread across the border into this area.  Sierra Vista claims to be the "hummingbird capital of America" due to the number of distinct species that may be see here. San Pedro House - August 27, 2023

Sierra Vista, Ash Canyon, Ramsey Canyon - June 4-12, 2023

 Notice the damaged beak on the House Finch.  I've seen him before and he seems to do all right despite the bad beak.  I don't know if the damage is the result of disease or injury.  I always feel bad for animals with some type of disability, but they seem to adapt much better than we humans. I managed to get out a couple nights to capture some nice sunsets.  These were my first sunset photos in many months.
