Tubac, International Hawk Watch
I made the trip to Tubac on Sunday, as planned. It was a beautiful day and a pleasant drive through the mountains. My RV park is actually in Amado, and not the one I tried first. The first one had some strange rules, so I gave up on it. I went to the Hawk Watch site Monday morning, but only saw a couple hawks, and they were too high for good photos. I did get a few other bird photos, but I want to start with photos from the area.
Tubac is a small town at the foot of the Santa Rita Mountains, once nothing but a farming/ranching community. It has become a mecca for the arts and artists, with many galleries, shops, theaters, restaurants, etc. Also, I discovered two humongous residential communities have been developed just outside the town. One is a golfing community, with twenty-seven holes where the movie Tin Cup was filmed, the other with seven separate neighborhoods having all forms and sizes of homes ranging in price up to $700,000. Of course, all are in what I call Old Hacienda Style, very attractive.
Spring wildflowers and a few trees are in full bloom, so it is very petty here. In addition to cruising around Tubac, I drove to Pena Blanca Lake in the nearby mountains, hoping to find waterfowl. Well, I did find a few old coots, including a couple of American Coots in the lake.
We'll start with "old" Tubac, then explore the Tubac Golf Resort before moving to Pena Blanca lake.
