Ash Canyon - August 13, 2023
I tend to be persistent when chasing a goal...some call it stubborn...so I returned to Ash Canyon for the third day in a row. Honestly, I was really just thrilled to be able to leave the house. Six weeks of being cooped up inside will have that effect. Anyway, there were lots of hummingbirds flitting around.

The crowd was thrilled when the Plain-capped Starthroat arrived, perching immediately on his favorite feeder. Notice the white marks on its back, and its large size compared to the Broad-billed and the Anna's sharing the feeder. Unfortunately, I never saw the bird's front, only his back and side. Other than its size, including a very long bill, I did not find much to get excited about. Oh yeah, it is rare in the U.S.
Some of the Broad-billed adult males showed off their brilliant colors.
Even the juvenile male Broad-billeds were happy to display their growing color.
Male Anna's were by far the most numerous species on this day.
On my way out of the canyon, I spotted a hawk in a familiar pose on a power line. I'm not sure, but it may be a young Cooper's Hawk.
