One of several canyons in the Huachuca Mountains, Ash Canyon is home to my favorite bird sanctuary. Once the home of a lady who loved birds and allowed the public to visit her home to see her birds, the grounds were bought following her death so an official sanctuary could be established there. When I realized I would be home for cancer treatment, I immediately joined the association to have a "go to" place for local photography. It has been a blessing during an otherwise bleak period in my life.
A great variety of birds, and other wildlife, can be seen in Ash Canyon, some year-round, others on a seasonal basis. The constant change in population makes it interesting, even challenging, to identify all the species that appear. For example, fifteen different species of hummingbirds have been seen here, some quite rare.
